pathetic fallacy
The pungent smell of rain hangs heavy
in one nostril
like loneliness, ebbing
in cautiousness;
The other senses heat breaking,
stems erect in defiance
with gloved fists, raised
to a new day dawning.
Skin, nervous in anticipation
of that climactic moment, looming
with the relief of thunder
and new beginnings;
Shoulders, unladen,
sculpt wings.
