The little guy is free. Having spent the evening curled into a peach basket with some watermelon and cat food (apparently, the diet of champions -- Charlie also approved), Blueberry was released back into the wild yesterday evening. At first, he was a little hesitant to leave the confines of the basket, choosing instead to play, rolling the basket back and forth along the ground. Like any kid. "Look surrogate ma, no hands!" I guess that means he had at least been comfortable overnight.

Even when we tried to encourage him to leave the basket, he clung to it with Captain Hook-like claws. Eventually, though, he succumbed to the smells of the pond, the twitterings of birds and insects and the opportunity to frolic about among the reeds, taking tentative steps -- blueberry nose twitching. But really, who wouldn't? "Hey, there's a turtle! Got a nutcracker handy?"

Musical accompaniment: Ohbijou - "Raccoons"
