Can't Beat the Real Thing.

Another comical sign from SCS's travels to the Philippines -- nothing says "Keep out" like corporate sponsorship.

As an interesting aside, I read today that the distinctive, wavy shape of the Coca-Cola bottle came about as a result of a mistake (don't nearly all good ideas?) It turns out the intention was to design the bottle based on two of the product's ingredients: the coca plant and the kola nut (yes, hence the name), but the employee sent out to make sketches returned having drawn a cacao pod. No word on whether he was fired for his blunder, but I should certainly hope not as the bottle has evolved into arguably the most recognizable product package in the world. Even with the move to cans.

A couple of my all-time favourite Coke slogans: from 1906, "The great national temperance beverage". Just sort of rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? From 1923 and 1938 respectively, "Enjoy thirst" and "The best friend thirst ever had". Isn't the point of beverages to rid of thirst? From 1927, "Pure as sunlight". Hunh?
